My room at the Sands Regency Reno was not comfortable. The bed was clean but very hard. Check in was slow plus they have a line for club members that allows people to go before you even if you have been standing in line for 15 minutes. The carpets in the room need to be cleaned, there is a odor that we noticed as soon as we entered the room. The check-in women has a terrible sense of humor. I asked for a room that is quiet and away from elevators. She gave me a room surrounded by three elevators.(Super noisy). Next room was next to giant A/C that cooled whole Hotel. (Even louder) Third room giiven by assistant manager was quiet and what I wanted. So third time a charm. Shouldn't be that hard to get a good room in the middle of winter when hotel is empty. Otherwise will recommend because the other time we stayed we were given a great room immediately. It's easy to tell that the Sands has been around since Reno's downtown heyday. The room decor could use some updating, but otherwise it was very clean and comfy and very much worth the price. Our 8th story window commanded a great view of the downtown area. The Sands also gave easy access to the other casinos and the bowling stadium with just a short walk. Stay at the Sands if you are looking for a cheap Hotel room, if you plan to stay in the room for any amount of time don't expect to enjoy yourself....

No in-room amenities (no iron, coffee maker, etc). We had planned to stay for 5 days, we found a new hotel after one night.

I was little disappointed in the hotel, it has been at least 15 years since the last time I was there. If they had done any remodeling I am not sure were they did it. There were a few changes in the casino and the rooms had beds so low to the ground you were basically rolled out to get up. The new carpets already had stains on them in the room and the hallways. Mel's Diner, located on the 1st level, is a bit pricey for the quality so finding a good buffet helps.

Obviously she has never stayed there because there was nothing wrong with the place. The rooms were a little outdated but clean and spacious. Staff was polite. Next room was next to giant A/C that cooled whole Hotel. (Even louder) Third room giiven by assistant manager was quiet and what I wanted. So third time a charm. This hotel/casino needs major renovations. The mattresses were stained and rock-hard. The furniture was cheap and in bad condition, ie: broken drawer pulls, etc. No water pressure for the toilet or shower. For a few dollars more, there's better places to stay in Reno.

Staff was nice. I won't be going back there, again.

Mel's Diner, located on the 1st level, is a bit pricey for the quality so finding a good buffet helps.

When we got to the hotel and went to our room, low and behold, there is already someone there... sleeping... but anyway, we went to get another room... (no apologies, or even good customer service for that matter) a little worried that it was so easy for us to get into someone else's room... so we basically hid all of our valuables... We were a little nervous about staying at this hotel because the price was SO low and a gal from Reno that lives within a couple blocks of the hotel told us it was the worst hotel in Reno. Obviously she has never stayed there because there was nothing wrong with the place. The rooms were a little outdated but clean and spacious. Staff was polite. Mexican restaurant on the premises was excellent. Hotel and casino are not at all fancy but well worth the money. We just basically needed a place to sleep. Only downfall was distance to convention center which we had to pay $14 - $17 each way.

Rooms are spacious. Stains on floor, rock hard beds. Good on-site restaurants. Casino floor is dirty, and filled with smoke. Didnt feel exactly safe walking around the casino floor even during the daytime.

When we got to the hotel and went to our room, low and behold, there is already someone there... sleeping... but anyway, we went to get another room... (no apologies, or even good customer service for that matter) a little worried that it was so easy for us to get into someone else's room... so we basically hid all of our valuables... Pretty much a cheap Reno hotel...

This hotel is cheap & boy, does it show. Old furniture, hard mattress, and overall grubby feeling. If you can spare the cash, stay at one of the newer hotels.

I stay in Reno when I snowboard in Tahoe. during this visit, one tower was closed for repairs, as was the health club. front desk was under construction. rooms are clean, but somewhat rundown. can't beat the price, though. maybe it'll be better in a few months when construction is finished.

This is an old hotel showing its age with rusting door frames and popping door veneer. It is otherwise clean and quiet after you get past the slots.

And that was during Hot August Nights.
