Stayed for 8 nights in the Diamond Head Wing Park View Studio three story "walk up". If you have heavy luggage you'll have to drag it up the steps. Kitchenette appliances were old. Shower curtains were of old vinyl/plastic that gave off a stench similar to BO. Awoke one morning and found a live cockroach in the bathtub with droppings. There were two more roach sightings throughout our stay. Valet parking is $15/day, but there are free street parking spots around the neighborhood. Beach location was fantastic! Busy Waikiki is about a 15 minute walk along Kapiolani Park.

Pros: Beach location
Cons: Rooms

We much prefer this far end of Waikiki. It's close to the zoo with animals and away from the zoo of people in central Waikiki. Staff was very nice and helpful. The overlooked-restaurant, Miyako, has great food and views (from 2d floor).

Pros: Location
Cons: Better Parking

We were looking for a beach front location, away from the hustle and busltle of Waikiki, but still close enough for selected visits. The New Otani was perfect! Located at Diamond Head, we found everything we had hoped for. We will definetly book again on a return visit!

We reserved 2 rooms, 1 ocean front suite for the adults and 1 Family Suite. The ocean front room was very small, although clean. The Famly Suite (situated in a 3rd floor walk up building) is the best value. The King Sized bed easily sleeps 3 and the 2 sleeper sofa's work perfectly. Not to mention the in-room coffee maker, dining table, large outdoor lanai with chairs, lots of closet space (4), with a separate vanity area. The coffee shop downstairs serves delicious goodies - brownies, muffins, etc.

The advertisement for this hotel suggested it had the best sunset view from the lounge or restaurant. When we tried to watch the sunset, we were suprized to see a hedge obstructing the view. I asked if we could take our (10$) drinks out to the beach to watch, denied. Alcohol is prohibited on the beaches. Not a deal breaker, but my dream of sipping a fruity something with umbrella on the beach was shattered.

Perfect location right near the Diamond Head on a nice quiet beach with a great restaurant on the sand below. My husband & I went for long weekend away from L.A. and loved that it was AWAY from Waikiki craziness but close enough to go shopping/surfing etc. No pool, but who cares? Even the Royal Hawaiian (we went to their spa for massages--overrated) has a tiny pool packed full of people. Not worth the $$$, in my opinion. The New Otani even let us use one of their rooms our last night for showering before our late flight. Would go again.

Pros: Location!

I really enjoyed my stay at the Kaimana Beach Hotel. It is right on the beach and about a mile away from the craziness of downtown Waikiki. I did not have a beach front room but I could see a little bit of the beach if I looked right off of my balcony. ALL of the rooms have a balcony! I wish there was more sound proofing between the rooms, but for the price, I can't complain. The Hau Tree Lanai Restaurant downstairs is one of the best places to eat in Honolulu, and is a favorite with the locals. They are consistant with great service and great food.

I lived in Honolulu for 7 years and this is where we had family stay when they came to visit. It is across from Kapiolani park and on Sans Souchi Beach and is actually a place locals go... unlike the heart of Waikiki. You get the same location as the pricier W next door but pay less. The Hau Tree restaurant is wonderful (on the beach) and their Japanese restaurant is delicious and authentic and with fabulous sunset views.

Pros: location outside insane Waikiki
Cons: just valets-last one lost keys
