Great for the price, Staff very nice and helpful. The restaurant was great but a little limited in selections but staff very sweet and homey atmosphere. Took Bart to and from airport ,so easy! M y only complaint was street noise super loud if your room faces the street and room next to ours slamming their door all night. Location was great for us as we needed to be close to the ballet. Few homelss in the area , worse at night but still felt safe . Great area a few blocks away Hayes Valley.

I am shocked and appalled at this hotel ). Rooms were tiny There were holes in my sheets. Asked for an extra blanket and they brought me one with cig burns and dirt on it. Cob webs and dirty shower. My daughter and I got bed bug bites from this fine establishment. The hotel manager Mr. Lee is a joke. Not to mention the homeless parked right outside that you have to step over. The staff communicate very poorly. I was charged to use the internet. I didnt like the fact that there was a inquiry on my card prior to my checkout. Homeless are at the entrance of the hotel begging. Bathrooms need updated. The fan blows loud noise when you turn the light on. The bellman wants a tip for everything. I was referred across the street for "the best breakfast". The food I received was not fit to eat. I am not accustomed to paying to sleep in a broke down bed. The key to remember is this is a hotel that is 100 years old. If you like staying where things are newer than I suggest a chain hotel. Room was clean, needs updating in bathroom. The walk from the hotel to Union Square can be a little scary, lots & lots of homeless people. Overall a good (not great) value.

Despite turn of the century aspect, this hotel is a dump. Small, crammed rooms, many are family rooms with only a door between rooms - you can hear everything, all night. Orwellian window views. Wireless may not work and tech support is non-existent. Unhelpful and dishonest reception staff. hard to tell which ones are worse. There are way better hotels in the same area. Though the building is immaculate, the management could use some upgrading. Poor communication skills, (non-English speaking)combined with a "there's nothing I can do about it" attitude, resulted in a very frustrating and disappointing visit. Add to that the fact that when I returned to my room on the last day of my stay, I found that a complete stranger had been let into my room by the staff. Well done security! Great work! Yes, the degenerates on Market could de-value your experience but hey, you are not in suburbia! Get used to it! Great location to stay between shopping and Castro/SOMA etc! Rooms are spacious and high ceilings. Bathrooms need work but what can you expect for under $100 avg here per night! Sbux in lobby too and free wireless. This is actually an amazing historical hotel, formerly known as the Whitcomb Hotel, that served as city hall after the 1906 earthquake. The lobby and banquet halls are beautiful. The room was small but sufficient. Perks: views of the Civic Center and Orpheum, BART stop in front of the hotel that connects you to the airport, nice gym, Starbucks by the lobby, and free wireless (lobby). The surrounding areas are a bit unsavory, not frighteningly so, but several degenerates seem to congregate in the area, especially 7th and Market St.

Wow, I used to live in SF! And this is the best Historic Hotel. I have to say this as I am a frequent visitor to many hotels in SF! Yes, SF has homeless; and if your an idiot you would assume it is the hotel's problem. It is the problem of society. Anyway. Do visit this hotel it is all class inside and out!

My daughter and I got bed bug bites from this fine establishment. The hotel manager Mr. Lee is a joke. Not to mention the homeless parked right outside that you have to step over. I have made a formal complaint to the Ramada Cust Serv., reported to the health dept and the BBB. Stay away from this rude, bug bearing no good excuse for a business.

Great work! The room was small but sufficient. This was my second stay at this historic downtown hotel (previously 6 years ago)withing walking distance of everything--or with BART/Muni outside the front door you can't go wrong. Staff are very friendly and helpful. If they had a pool and a fitness center, they'd have a 4-diamond rating. My room at a very pricey hotel on Union Square 2 years ago wasn't any bigger, nor was the lobby nicer, or the staff better.

I have stayed here several times now and have never been disappointed. Bath's could use an upgrade or be redesigned, kept hitting the towel racks. Lots of homeless people on Market, but hey, this IS San Francisco. Never been hassled by anyone. Bigger hassle was crying kids in room next door on a few trips. Housekeeping staff is GREAT.

Very nice hotel. Close to transportation. Not in the best area of town. Be prepared to pay $28 for parking. The halls reminded us of "The Haunted Mansion" at Disneyland. Very scary. Room was very elegant and comfy.

Do not let the facade deceive you - its a two or even one star establishment.

I will NOT stay here again. The hotel is in an awful area, not safe in the least which is sad considering the State House is down the block. The hotel rooms are so small and out of a horror movie. Walking to dinner, we literally had to walk over fecal matter and a river of pee - DISGUSTING. Security guards just want tips - don't take their suggestions.

Cons: The neighborhood

This hotel lools okay when booking and even when checking in. The halls and rooms are seriously creepy. outside is not a good area at all.All of the service was beyond friendly though. Just a creepy creepy place to stay though.

Where else can you stay where the BART/Muni escalator dumps you off literally at the front door? No wheeling your suitcase up blocks or hills. Great location! Restaurant off lobby isn't bad for breakfast.

Pros: Location - Transit - Price
Cons: Bathrooms

Well the hotel was close to everything. The San Francisco Transportation system is easy to use and close to hotel. There is a strip right outside of the hotel with a lot of homeless people. Once you walk by this strip everything is beautiful. The hotel was reasonably priced and cutesy. The matresses were terribly uncomfortable. Dont get stuck in a room next to the ice machine.

Pros: Lobby
Cons: The matresses
